Women's rights at labor: challenges and prospects

In today's society, there are still many problems related to gender equality. One such problem is discrimination against women in the workplace, which hinders their professional fulfillment and limits their opportunities.

One of the main forms of discrimination is the unequal remuneration of women and men for equal work. Statistics show that women are often paid significantly less for the same work done by men. Another common manifestation of discrimination is the underrepresentation of women in decision-making positions and limited access to higher positions. There is a significant gender imbalance in leadership positions in Tajikistan, predominantly held by men. It should also be noted that women in Tajikistan often face traditional prejudices and stereotypes about their role in society. This creates a gap in the socio-economic status of women and men, and reduces their incentives to develop and succeed in their careers.

Within the framework of the project "Women's Rights at labor", the public organization "Bonuwoni Fardo" In August 2023, in Khatlon province, 2 round tables were held to raise awareness of women's rights in the workplace. The participants were representatives of local Hukumats and Jamoats, women activists, heads and members of dekhkan farms. Through discussion, the participants identified the main problems faced by rural women in the workplace and presented recommendations to address them. The newspapers of 3 districts were involved in lobbying for women's rights and publishing thematic articles: in Nosir Khusrav - "Beshkent", in Shahritus - "Subhi Shahritus" and in Kubodiyon - "Takhti Kubod". We believe that collaboration between the government, employers, women's organizations, media, and the public can help create an equitable and fair workplace environment. This project is supported by USAID under Legal Support Program in Tajikistan ICNL.
