New Horizons: Women and their Growing Role in Farming
For a long time, land in Tajikistan was a male prerogative. As a rule, women were secondary owners of land, while men were the main owners. In recent years, numerous reforms have been carried out in Tajikistan to expand women's rights. Particular attention is paid to the problem of their access to land.
The public organization "Bonuvoni Fardo" of Khatlon region, with financial support from Mama Cash, is also making a major contribution to increasing women's access to land. Our activities include information programs and campaigns that we have been conducting for many years, aimed at increasing the education of women and girls in rural areas. We explain the land rights of women and girls in Kubodiyon, Shahritus and Nosir Khusraw, provide knowledge on farming practices, land documentation and participation in decision making through the establishment of dekhan farms, land inheritance, allocation of land shares, state registration of land and property use rights. In addition, a key area of our work is to encourage government support for women through trainings for local authorities on women's access to land.
Despite significant progress in increasing women's access to land, there is still much work to be done to fully address this issue. We are very enthusiastic to continue our active activities aimed at creating equal opportunities for men and women in the rural areas of southern Khatlon. We believe that our efforts will help strengthen women's role in society and increase their economic independence.
